Claire Rees
Claire is the Head of Safe System in the Road Safety Division at DfT. This includes the Safer Road Users team, Safer Vehicles (Light Vehicles Roadworthiness and MoT) team and the Road Safety Data, Speed and Rural Roads team. Her teams are currently responsible for delivering many of the polices in the new 2026 Road Safety Strategy, including younger and older driver policy and the Work Related Road Safety Charter.
Claire is a Chartered engineer and a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. She has held various roles at DfT and its agencies since 1999, including vehicle test engineer and delivering the £200m Safer Roads Fund. Prior to that she was a graduate vehicle designer working on Volvo city buses.
