After the Grenfell fire an independent review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety was conducted by Dame Judith Hackitt, former Chair of the HSE.

This has led to a new regulatory body, an Act of Parliament, new regulations, and changes to existing regulations, for fire, construction, building, building inspections, manufacturing, testing and the control and management of buildings. These changes are primarily for high rise and high-risk buildings but also extend to others as do the changes in competency requirements for duty holders.
